Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is an IPL T20 format team representing Kolkata City. Team Franchise was purchased for $75.09 in an auction in 2008 by Shahrukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment and Mehta Group. 

The Team first entered the playoffs of the IPL in 2011. Now, the Team has won the title twice, in 2012 and 2014.

The home ground of the KKR team is Eden Garden Kolkata.

Shahrukh Khan’s company Red Chillies Entertainment holds 55% stake in KKR’s franchisee.

While Jai Mehta and Juhi Chawla’s company Mehta Group holds 45% stake.

Shahrukh Khan has more shares and more members on the board.

Any decision is taken by the voting of more than half the members. Therefore the actual owner of the Team is Shahrukh Khan.

• The theme song of KKR is.Korbe, Zorbo, Jeetbo RE’. 
• It is in the Bengali language.
• The English version is ‘We will act, fight and win.’
• This song is sung and composed by Bollywood singers Vishal Dadlani and Sekhar Ravjivani.

In IPL 2008: 6th Position; could not reach playoffs. 

The captain in this first season was Sourav Ganguly, and the coach was John Buchanan. 

Out of the total 14 matches played, the Team won 6 games and lost 7. 1 match was abandoned due to rain. The Team secured the 6th Position on the scoreboard.

IPL 2009: Bottom position in the point table, could not reach to advance.

This time Brendon McCullum was made the team captain while Coach John Buchanan remained.

The Team played a total of 13 matches, winning only three and losing 10.

The Team had lost eight consecutive matches in this league.

According to the critics, due to the change of frequent captains, Harmony could not be made with the players. This results in poor performance.

The Team finished at the bottom of the point table.

IPL 2010: 6th Position in the point table, fails to enter playoffs.

Captain Sourav Ganguly and Coach Dave Whatmore were named this time.

This league included Coach Dav Whatmore and captain Gautam Gambhir.

IPL 2012: Winner of the Title

The team captain in this IPL was Gautam Gambhir, and the coach was Trevor Bayliss.

The Team won 12 matches and lost five matches in a total of 17 games; 1 match was abandoned.

IPL 2013: 7th position, could not reach advance

This time also, coach Trevor Bayliss and captain Gautam remained.

Out of the total 16 matches played, the team won only six and faced defeat in 10 matches.
The team got the 7th position in the point table.

IPL 2014: Won the Title

Captain Gautam Gambhir and coach Trevor Bayliss remained in this season as well.
In the total of 16 matches played, the team won 11 matches and became the champion in the season.

IPL 2015: 5th position, could not reach advance

Gautam Gambhir was captain, and Trevor Bayliss was the coach this season.
Out of 13 matches played, the team won 7 and faced defeat in 6.
The team finished 5th on the scoreboard after losing to Rajasthan Royals on May 16.

IPL 2016: 4th position, qualified for playoffs

Captain Gautam Gambhir remained this season, but Franchise handed over the coach’s responsibility to Jacques Kallis.
Out of 15 matches played, the team won 8 matches and faced defeat in 7 matches.
The team reached the playoffs. But the first match was lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad and remained in 4th position on the scoreboard.

IPL 2017: 4th position in the league, qualified for playoffs.

Gautam Gambhir remained captain, and Jacques Kallis remained coach in this league.
The team won 8 of the 14 matches it played and qualified for the playoffs.
After losing to MI in the match on May 13, the team remained in fourth place on the scoreboard.

IPL 2018: 3rd position in the season, advanced to the eliminator

Jacques Kallis remained the coach in this league, but Dinesh Karthik was made the captain.
Out of 14 matches played, the team won 8 and remained in 3rd position on the scoreboard.

IPL 2019: 5th position, could not reach playoffs

This season also featured Captain Dinesh Karthik and Coach Jacques Kallis.
KKR won only six of the 14 matches they played, finishing fifth on the scoreboard.

IPL 2020: 5th position in the season, could not qualify for the playoffs

This season, Brendon McCullum took over as coach while Dinesh Karthik remained captain. But after the 7th match, Karthik handed over this responsibility to England’s World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan.
The team played 14 matches, out of which it won 7 and lost 7, standing in the 5th position in the points table.

IPL 2021: 4th position, qualified for playoffs

This season, Eoin Morgan was retained as captain, as was Coach Brendon McCullum.
Like last season, this time, the team won 7 out of 14 matches and lost 7, but this time qualified for the playoffs.
The team moved to the fourth position after losing the match against MI on October 15.

IPL 2022: 7th position, could not qualify for playoffs
