IPL Chennai Team

The Chennai team of IPL is known as Chennai Super Kings. It was founded in 2008. The team’s franchise is with Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited, a subsidiary of India Cements. The owner of the team is N. Srinivasan. 

The captain of this team is M.S. Dhoni, and the coach’s responsibility has been given to Stephen Fleming. M. S. Dhoni has been the captain of Chennai Super King since its inception.

CSK owner was found involved in betting in the 2013 IPL. That’s why the CSK team was suspended from the IPL for two years and could not play IPL in 2016 and 2017.

CSK in IPL 2008: Brief overview

In the first IPL, Chennai Super Kings played their first match against Kings XI Punjab on 19th April 2008.

The team also played the final match of this IPL but lost to Rajasthan Royals and stood second on the leaderboard.

CSK in IPL 2009

CSK signed England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff this season after missing out on the championship last year. But he could contribute only in three matches. After this, he had to be ruled out of the league due to a knee injury.

CSK’s dream of reaching the final in this league was shattered when he lost to Royal Challenger Bangalore in the semi-final; and slipped to fourth place on the leader board.

CSK in IPL 2010

Once in IPL 2010, it was such that CSK could not even reach the semi-finals. But sometimes, the batting and the bowling side made it to the final.

In the final, CSK faced Mumbai Indians, considered arch-rivals. And CSK won the match by 22 runs. That is why CSK won the first IPL championship.

CSK in IPL 2011

In 2010, CSK won the IPL title for the second time. Beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 58 runs in the final.

CSK in IPL 2012

In the 2012 IPL, CSK reached the final but lost to Kolkata Knight Riders. And thus missed out on the hat-trick. Thus CSK Slipped to second place on the leaderboard.

CSK in IPL 2013

In the 2013 IPL, CSK faced Mumbai Indians in the final. Despite Dhoni’s explosive batting, Mumbai Indians won by 23 runs and ranked second on the leaderboard.

CSK in IPL 2014

In IPL 2014, CSK failed to reach the finals and finished third on the leaderboard.

CSK in IPL 2015

CSK reached the finals in this league but could not win against Mumbai Indians and finished second in the leaderboard.

CSK was suspended from IPL in 2016 and 2017 due to involvement in betting.

CSK in IPL 2018

CSK won the title of the championship in this league. CSK beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in the final.

CSK in IPL 2019

In this tournament, CSK reached the finals but unfortunately lost to Mumbai Indians by one run and had to be content with the second position on the leaderboard.

CSK in IPL 2020

This IPL was the most disappointing for CSK as he faced consecutive defeats. After losing to Mumbai Indians, even the dream of reaching the playoffs shattered, and they fell to the 7th position in the leaderboard.

CSK in IPL 2021

CSK made many changes in the team after the embarrassing defeat last season. CSK defeated Kolkata Knight Riders in the final to win the IPL trophy for the fourth time.

CSK in IPL 2022

Dhoni wanted to be someone other than the captain at the beginning of the IPL, so Ravindra Jadeja was made the captain. CSK lost six matches out of eight games.

After losing to Mumbai Indians, CSK’s dream of making it to the playoffs was shattered, and the team slipped to 9th position in the leaderboard. The year 2022 has been the worst for CSK in the history of IPL.
