Nicholas Pooran Car Accident
Nicholas had an accident in January 2015 in Trinidad when he was 19. That day, he returned to his home in Kouva after practising at the National Cricket Academy, when a car tried to overtake him at high speed. In an attempt to escape, his car collided with a dune, and as soon as another vehicle came on the road, it hit him hard.
Nicholas had lost consciousness during the accident, and when he regained consciousness in the hospital, he had no clear recollection.
Pooran could not play for 18 months after the accident. During this, his friend Catherine Miguel (now wife) gave him much support and encouragement.
Pooran’s right leg ankle was fractured. The veins of the knee of the left leg were torn. Plaster was on both legs. A week later, he underwent surgery on his right leg. In this situation, the doctor asked him to forget cricket.
After about six months, in August 2015, he slowly started walking. Looking at his recovery, the doctors said his chances of playing cricket were now visible.
Despite being plastered on both legs, Nicholas did not give up hope and courage, and as a result of which, he started playing cricket again after 18 months.
